About Me
I started my career as a Usability Engineer when the .com bubble was about to burst and the title "Usability Engineer" was still hot.

For someone trained in engineering and human factors, and yet fascinated by art, designing user-friendly and graphically pleasing websites is the perfect path. Engineering taught me how to apply logic to analyze and break down a complex problem, and then iteratively find solutions. The discipline of human factors taught me how to put users in the center and design from their perspective. In this domain, work physiology studies how we interact with a system physically, while cognitive science cares about how the mind processes information. At the same time, the love for art helps me to stay creative.

I learned to master a variety of UX design tools, languages and framework: from Visual Basic, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop in the early days, graduating to HTML, CSS, Javascript, and recently Axure, Sketch and Figma.

Financial services industry presents the challenges of having numerous complex systems with enormous amount of data, all waiting to be revamped to meet the demand of ever-changing business landscape. I love to tackle the inherent design problems. Like everything else in history, UX design evolves alongside the technology we use to build the product. From desktop to web, from static HTML to HTML5 SPA's, we work hard to constantly update the design to meet the underlying technology trends. Although the user-centered principles, basic patterns and design processes could remain quite constant, design elements, styling, interactions and methodologies are always evolving, sometimes dramatically. For instance, current interaction patterns would have been unrecognizable during past decade's adoption of mobile platform in our daily life.

I love being part of a talented team and greatly enjoy working with other designers, technologists and analysts. “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.” - Michael Jordan
Hobbies

I am passionate about painting with various materials and exploring different sketching techniques.
I love playing tennis year-round and skiing in the winter. Whenever the weather permits, hiking in the mountains or mountain biking on the trails always refreshes my mind. All in all, nature is my favorite source of inspiration.

Last but not the least is my little flower and vegetable garden, where I plant the seeds and see them sprout, grow flowers and even bear fruits. It not only provides organic food for me, but also gives hope. "To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow." - Audrey Hepburn
